Introducing Alfredo Flores
By: Danielle Proulx
“I know there’s sunshine beyond that rain. I know there’s good times beyond that pain.” You may recognize those lyrics as they are from Justin Bieber’s song entitled“Pray.” However, today, I am not introducing Justin Bieber, I am introducing the man behind his Pray music video.
Pop culture and music videos attract viewers worldwide, especially when your projects are as influential as this young man’s. This young man is a dream chaser. This young man is inspirational and influential. This young man is Alfredo Flores. At the young age of 24, he has already proven why he is considered so ambitious in today’s film industry. He first attended the Art Institute of New York, then transferred to Los Angeles, where he graduated from the Art Institute of California with an Associate of Science in Video Production in 2010. While in college, he interned for UNCLE Productions, and Geffen Records where he worked on sets for Chris Brown, Lupe Fiasco, Keyshia Cole, and Keri Hilson. He also interned for Paramount Studios.
He is an outstanding videographer and camera operator who has produced music videos, as well as Behind The Scene clips for artists like Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and Justin Bieber. He has also produced short films and tour diaries for artists like Selena Gomez and Jasmine Villegas. You can also add Danity Kane, Nick Cannon, and Quincy to the long list of artists he has worked with already, so early in his career.
With each of his productions acquiring millions of views and his current position being that of touring with Justin Bieber as his videographer and best friend, I think it is safe to say Alfredo is definitely living his childhood dream.
As a kid, he spent his childhood growing up in North Jersey, and dreamed of making it in the film industry. He started as a teenage boy with a big dream, and because of his determination, he is not only accomplishing his film-making dream, but he is inspiring others to live their dreams as well, like me! Alfredo says “I had that one dream at 17, everything I had hoped my life would be, is what it is now. My dreams just grow as I grow and I plan on executing every single one.” Well, if that does not inspire you to chase your dreams, I am not sure what will. When I think about this young man, I think of the quote from Jesse Jackson, “If they can conceive it and believe it, they can achieve it. They must know it is not their aptitude, but their attitude that will determine their altitude.”
As stated in an interview for The Art Institute, Alfredo will not stop until he gets it. His eyes are always on the prize. He races towards success like a runner racing to the Olympics finish line. His journey is filled with hurdles but the finish line is always in sight.
In life, we notice when things do not work. We do not notice when things do work. Sometimes, it becomes a habit. We focus all too much on our downfalls, and we lose focus of our dreams. Alfredo, however is different.
As you can see, I look up to him as I look towards my future. I admire his dedication, and his passion. He is courageous, creative, and compassionate.
When asked in an interview with Latina Magazine, one thing Alfredo wanted those who look up to him to know is this, “dreams are reachable. Never give up. Never take no for an answer. When one door closes, another one opens. You CAN do it!”
Justin Bieber says, “Alfredo is always smiling. He just makes everyone happy.” Jasmine Villegas states, “Alfredo is an amazing director, as well as an amazing person.” One of the many quotes from Alfredo that really sticks in my head is this, “most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope.”
Alfredo is an inspiration to thousands of young people around the world, including me. Today, he is here at the Tribeca Film Festival to inspire each and every one of you young people as he talks about chasing dreams, and accomplishing what you have been longing to accomplish. Let me also say that you do not have to be a film major to be inspired by this young man.
Alfredo is here to describe why the things he learned in college have helped him to become so successful, and how they have served as building blocks for his future. He is proof you can do anything you set your mind to.
Ladies and gentlemen, would you please help me welcome Mr. Alfredo Flores!!
*I was required to do an introductory speech on someone I looked up to in the area of my study. Obviously, I chose Alfredo Flores. My professor told me to save it in case I ever got the chance to present it to Fredo, or let him see it one day. So.. I’ve typed it all up, printed it, and put it in a safe place :) and here is the digital copy:) My twitter is @jbMETdanica :)*
